Kim Soo-Nyung is widely recognised as one of the outstanding female archers of her generation – and this despite spending the years between 1992 and 1999 in retirement.
She burst onto the scene at Seoul 1988 as a 17-year-old, winning gold medals in both the women’s Individual and Team competitions. Four years later she won a further two medals at Barcelona 1992.
Having competed at two Games Kim retired at 21, but would return to win another gold and a bronze at Sydney 2000. Her total of six Olympic medals makes her the most decorated woman in the sport’s history.
